Facts about the Annular Solar Eclipse 2 October 2024

Gerhana Matahari

A ring solar eclipse will take place on October 2, 2024. When that happens, the moon will cover the sun during the day, blocking the light that reaches the earth.

The affected area will be like night for a while. Launching the Space page on Thursday (26/09/2024), this annular solar eclipse will cross the Pacific Ocean and southern South America.

At the largest point the observations occurred in the Pacific Ocean. The moon will cover 93 percent of the sun, then create a 'ring of fire' for 7 minutes and 25 seconds.
The annular solar eclipse on October 2 2024 has a long and wide path. The eclipse will rise south of Hawaii in the North Pacific Ocean and set north of South Georgia in the South Atlantic Ocean. https://ogunquitwoodentoy.com/

The journey covers a distance of 14,163 kilometers, with a track between 265 and 331 km wide. Very few cross land, only Rapa Nui (Easter Island) and the southern parts of Chile and Argentina in South America are in the ring's path.

The annular solar eclipse on October 2 2024 is considered special, because this eclipse occurred after the great North American eclipse on April 8 2024. Apart from that, this eclipse lasted a long time, much longer than the last annular solar eclipse on October 14 2023, namely 4 minutes 52 seconds.

Judging from its trajectory, Indonesian people cannot directly witness the process of the moment the sun is covered by the moon.

The Process of an Annular Solar Eclipse

Launching the NASA page on Thursday (26/09/2024), an annular solar eclipse occurs when the disk of the moon (at the peak of the eclipse) only covers part of the disk of the sun. This type of eclipse occurs when the disk of the moon is smaller than the disk of the sun.

Not all of the sun's disk is covered by the moon's disk. The part of the sun that is not covered by the moon is what looks like a ring.

A ring solar eclipse occurs when the moon is farthest from the earth. Because of this, the moon will appear smaller, blocking the entire view of the sun.

First contact is the phase where a partial solar eclipse begins. The signs of this phase are when the moon's shadow appears in front of the sun and then the sun appears as if it is partially consumed by the moon.

The second contact is the phase when the ring shape usually begins to appear. This contact will appear as if the ring has a gem on one end.

After this ase, the moon is right in the middle of the sun's shadow. The third contact occurs when the annular solar eclipse is complete.

The moon will little by little start to move away from the sun.
